Summary

A preliminary timeline of the events before, during, and after the disaster that occurred 5th October 2005 when a mudslide from Volcán Tolimán devastated the town of Panabaj, Sololá. This preliminary timeline was created as part of Work Package 2.1 of the GCRF-funded project, "Ixchel: Building understanding of the physical, cultural and socio-economic drivers of risk for strengthening resilience in the Guatemalan cordillera". This work package was dedicated to 3 case studies of communities across the Guatemalan cordillera affected by geophysical hazards whose impacts were compounded by socio-economic and political factors: Lahars affecting El Viejo Palmar (Retalhuleu), mudflows over Panabaj (2005), and eruption of Volcán de Fuego (2018).
