Archaeological sites and monuments of national importance are designated as Scheduled Monuments under Part l of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979 (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1979/46). They are listed in a schedule maintained by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, advised by Historic England. Notifications of changes to the schedule are issued by Historic England and this dataset is updated by the Cheshire Archaeology Planning Advisory Service as soon as possible after the notification is received.
