Summary

The Brownfield Land Register includes all previously developed land considered suitable, available and achievable for residential development. The register comprises:

  • Brownfield sites that have been granted planning permission and are either under construction or not started
  • Brownfield sites that are allocated in adopted or emerging Local Plans
  • Brownfield sites identified in Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments/ Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessments that have been assessed as being suitable, available and achievable for housing against criteria in the National Planning Policy Framework. The government requires each local planning authority to maintain a register of previously developed (brownfield) land that is considered to be appropriate for housing.
