The police use Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) examiners to inspect vehicles involved in accidents where it is alleged or suspected that a defect may have been a causal factor. For the duration of this project, which ended on 31 August 2011, the information collected by VOSA examiners was compiled by a contractor in a database (the VOSA Accidents and Defects Database).
