Child height and weight
Explore statistics and analysis on child height and weight across age, sex, deprivation, ethnicity and geographic areas.
In England the National Child Measurement Programme collects data throughout the school year on children's height and weight between the ages of 4-5 and 10-11. Data has been published since 2006.
In Scotland the Child Health Programme has published data about height and weight of children aged around 5 years old since the 2001/02 school year. Public Health Scotland publishes PDF statistics releases and XLSX data tables. You can download the data in a CSV format on the Scottish Health and Social Care open data portal.
In Wales the Child Measurement Programme delivered by Public Health Wales measures the height and weight of children aged 4-5 years old. Public Health Wales have published Word document reports and XLSX data tables since the 2011/12 school year. You can explore the data visually and filter for downloading (XLSX) using the Child Measurement Programme dashboard.
In Northern Ireland the Public Health Agency publishes statistical profiles of children's health in PDF reports, XLSX and CSV data tables. Publications go back to 2022/23 and include growth measurements of children aged 4-5 years old.
